What she's wearing: a 'shrug' sweater

Lightweight knits are one of my favorite staples for Northwest wardrobes. Ideally, they are washable, don't need to be ironed, and can be layered for year-round wear. This particular day was overcast and warm but breezy, so I needed just a little extra coverage for an outdoor birthday party and then dinner at a friend's house.

I never really found the shrug sweater trend appealing for myself. (A shrug sweater is basically a sweater that is cut off right below the armpits or bustline.) It was a little too trendy for my taste. However, I always love the idea of a flattering knit that can be worn both casual and dressy.

I found this sweater at the Banana Republic Outlet at the Seattle Premium Outlets Mall. This sweater was a great compromise for me. I liked the interest of the tie-front, but felt the length made it a bit more classic.

Previously worn: a kimono-inspired top
