Sausage Links, transit migraine edition — part deux

By Clark Fredricksen

Want to know if the new light rail line will stop in your neck of the woods? Any minute now, the Sound Transit board is expected to approve this map of proposed transit routes to be placed on the ballot. For now, here's the buzz:

Department of Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond says she wants to see more "immediate bus service relief for the region's commuters, who are suffering at the gas pump." Meanwhile, Washington Policy Center Blog has their own damning preview of the new proposal, while the editorial board at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer rings the bell for more public debate.

May I run? If you're looking to hold a city council seat somewhere, beautiful Wapato, Wash., is the place for you. They've got two open council seats — and no one to fill them. ...

Running on empty: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is out-fundraising Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., by six-to-one in Washington. ...

Just say no: Should Tacoma invest in U.S. Open-host Chambers Bay Golf Course? The News Tribune op-ed board says no. ...

Just say ja: Eli Sanders at The Stranger says he "wasn't underwhelmed" by Barack Obama's speech today in Germany. ...

The long arm of the law: A Portland Police officer gets fined for illegal parking. ...

And finally, some readers will remember Robert "The Traveller" Hill and his infamous pants-dropping incident at a City Council meeting in Tacoma. Despite the best efforts of Pierce County prosecutors, Hill's bid to become Pierce County sheriff is still alive. ...

Report a violationPosted by: Seattle Observer on Jul 28, 2008 4:24 PM
>
Today, Larry Phillips, on the King County Council, announced this "Historic" news: If the voters vote for a massive tax increase this fall, we will have light rail service to Northgate by 2020 (so long as everything goes according to plan, that is). 2020! Why do I find this "historic" announcement depressing?
